Dear Lorraine:
Just a line to say pardon me please for not answering your letter sooner,
I can't write, neither spell. Thought I would get Alice to write for me,
but I am reminded of the LYRIC ?, "when you want a thing done, do it
yourself." So I am hoping you luck in reading this. It will be the best
I can do.
Yes Sweetheart, I had a nice visit back home. I love that old place,
though It's sad to go back home and find most of all the old friends
gone. I dearly love Bigmama or my only sister.
I were born and raised in Louisiana. My parents lived there all their
lives, most of their lives in Union Parish, though they both died in
Quachita Parish, not far from Bigmama's.
They had 2 children, me and your Grandad. Your Grandad were born June
12, 1876. I were born September the 10th 1874. My dad were 25 years old
when he left this world. My mother were born July the 4, 1900. She were
43 in July past. You will have to figure on the year they were born.
They never lived in Oklahoma.
Mother married a Chase. She had 1 boy by Chase. She went to New Mexico,
stayed there one year then to Texas for 1 year, then back to
Louisiana.
So my Grandad is your Great Grandad, my brother is your Grandad. Honey,
I get mixed up. Your Grandad were 2 years old the 12th of June when I
were born September the 10th 1874. Last September the 10th I got on a
PWA (TWA) plane in Columbus, Ohio at 5 in the morning. Got to Oklahoma
City at 1 in the evening, took a bus to Wilson and were in my bed at 7.
I enjoyed the trip so much, but I hope I won't have to go by air no
more. It's too fast for me. I don't think I will ever be able to go to
Louisiana again alone. My daughter-in-law said she would come back and
take me back some day, but she may wait too long. I have high blood
pressure. I will feel fine then before I can think, I find myself acting
crazy. I can't explain it. Last fall I had a dreadful pain in my head,
I decided to see a doctor. Well I got lost, when I came to myself, I
were clean across town. I finally got to the doctor. He brought me
home. The next I saw the doctor, I asked him about it. He said my blood
pressure were as high as it could go without bursting a blood vessel. I
think it did. For several days I had nose bleed, so now when I have a
pain in my head, I go to bed. So I am afeared to travel alone. Oh ,yes,
I got a letter from a cousin I never saw. I never saw his grandad,
neither his dad, but I have heard mother speak of his dad and grandad.
His grandad were my mother's brother. I didn't know such a person
existed. I were so happy to get that letter.
Well, Bye, hope you can get a little out of this mess,
I love you so much.
Your ole Aunt Becky
I don't get too, too lonely. I have a Radio, Television, and I piece
quilts an quilts. I have quilted 5 quilts this winter, have 2 more but I
may not quilt them.
Well, I have the mean cat. She won't let me set still. She makes me
make mistakes (?). She bit me. She wants to romp but she's too rough so
I put her out.
I have a few hens and one setting. She's been setting one week. Hope I
can raise a few fryers.
So Bye Bye again.
Send me some pictures of your family. Have Luther ever married ?
