2. Robert Fitz Ralph, 2nd but 1st surviving son and heir, by 1st wife,aged 40, or 40 and more, at his father's death. On 6 July 1297, havingentered, without licence certain lands in Angerton, Doddington, Heddon,&c., whereof Katherine, late the wife of William fitz Ralph [Robert'selder brother who dsp & vp bef. 6 July 1297], had enfeofted him, he hadlivery, of the same, for a fine, it being provided that he did homage forthem before the King crossed to parts beyond seas. As an adherent of theEarl of Lancaster, he was pardoned for any part he had taken againstPiers de Gavastone, 16 October 1313.
He married Elizabeth. He died shortly before 15 April 1317, and was bur.in Butterwick Church, having survived his father only two months, andnever having had livery of his father's lands. On 25 April 1317 his widowhad livery of the manors of Butterwick and Hildreskelf, to hold intenancy till her dower was assigned, viz, till 25 July following: on 5September 1317 she obtained possession of divers tenements inMorton-on-Swale and Thirntoft, of which she and her husband had beenjointly enfeoffed by his father, Ralph fitz William, to them and theheirs of their bodies: on 15 November following she had livery of themanor of Wyboston, the advowsons of Morpeth and Folkton, and diverscornages and knights' fees, and, 10 December 1318, of one third of thefourth part of the manors of Angerton, Heddon, &c., all of which the Kinghad assigned to her in dower.
