David of Strathbogie, 8th Earl of Atholl; knighted 1264; married 1stHelen; married 2nd by 1265 Isabel (born after 1245; married 2nd justafter 7 Nov 1270 Alexander de Balliol of Cavers and died Feb 1292),daughter of Richard of Dover/of Chilham (Kent) (son of Richard FitzRoy(died in or after 1232) by Rose, daughter and heiress of Robert of Dover,illegitimate son of King John) by Maud, Countess of Angus in her ownright, thus acquiring the Manor of Chilham, and died of plague atCarthage 6 Aug 1270, having joined the 7th Crusade under Louis IX ofFrance. NOTE: The designation "Dover" in BP's article above is outdated. Itshould read "Douvres of Chilham". CP's article used to read like BP's,but it was updated by volume XIV to read "Douvres".

EARLDOM of ATHOLL (VIII) 1260?

DAVID (OF STRATHBOGIE), Earl of Atholl, son and heir, succeeded beforeChristmas 1264. He married 1stly Helen. He married 2ndly, before 1265,Isabel [born after 1245], sister and heir of Richard de Douvres ofChilham, Kent (d. 1265-6), daughter of Richard de Douvres of the same(living 1247) (c), by Maud, suo jure Countess of Angus, daughter and heirof Malcolm, Earl of Angus. He died in the 7th Crusade, 6 August 1270, atCarthage. His widow married, without license, shortly after 7 November1270, [when her marriage was granted to Philip d'Aubigny] Alexander deBalliol of Cavers [Lord Balliol], who d. between Mar 1291/2 and Jun 1311.She died by 18 Mar 1291/2 and was buried 24 Mar near the altar of St.Edward in Canterbury Cathedral. (c) This Richard de Douvres was son and heir of Richard FitzRoy (d.1245-6), by Rose (d. 1264-5), daughter and heir of Foubert de Douvres,all of Chilham afsd., which Richard was last named was bastard son ofKing John.
