*~~ A Sad Life My Grandpa Had ~~*
As a child I always see My Grandpa just as a grandpa role..It was not until I grew up I realized how hard a life he had. Grandpa was born and raised in Gilpin Ky. When GP got married he and GM ( Emma Rainwater) ran off and married ( that story later) well the happy couple with the love for each other as big as the world. They had a son, CHOICE, Then a daughter, OKAL, Then another son Gilbert, then another daughter my grandmother Sylvia, Then another son. This was when the start of many years of saddness for my grandpa began with his 5th child. While Grandpa was out in the oil fields with his father in law (Miles Rainwater)and family .Grandma and the kids were at home. Family would stop in and check on them from time to time, Her sister Earthly stayed with GM since it was her timefor baby # 5.. Well this traveling so called doctor, happened upon her, he ask for food in exchange for checking her and the soon to be baby out. By night my grandma and her 5th child were dead. he the QUACK done something to her the family said. Leaving 4 little kids behind, The Rainwaters help out in raising the kids for awhile, but grandpa had decided to take his 4 kids and move back to Gilpin ,Ky. where all his family was. ( he was out in OK,& AZ.) the kids grew up, Grandpa re married a wonderful lady Elsia. Together they had a son, Gary, he died young, less than 6 months old. They went on and had a daughter, Aunt Joyce Ann. What a blessing she was and still is. Well years pass,and my grandma the 4th child born ( Sylvia Gilpin) was in the hospital she had been sick for a long time... While there, her 2 brothers( Choice and Gilbert) would go see her along with her aunts on the Rainwater side, her sister Okel my grandma died after 7 years in and out of the hospital.She too left behind, 3 little kids ... Choice and Gilbert were driving home 1 day, and had a wreck and killed them both shortley after grandma died.So GP 1st wife was killed along with his unborn son, then another son died, then his other 2 sons were killed in a wreck, then his daughter Sylvia....He was sad....But he is with them all now, and will be forever...The pain in my grandpa's heart was heavy. I loved my grandpa so much,I always loved going to Gilpin,Ky. and spending time with him.....xoxoxo The last time I seen him was when he made the trip up to my other grandpas house ( Roy Taylor, who had married his daughter Sylvia, who lefted behined 3 little ones, after a 7 year battle in and out of hospital) I will treasure that day always. For I was in the room with the three men in my life, that I not only loved, and adored, but give thanks to my Father in Heaven for the blessing of having them in my life. 1. Grandpa Gilpin, 2. Grandpa Taylor,and 3. my husband Wendell Winks. The year was 1972. Oh how I miss my grandpa's

Julie Lautenslager <http://connect.ancestry.com/Profile/00edd226-0006-0000-0000-000000000000> Thank you for sharing this story, Kathy! I attached it to my tree a while ago, but just had a chance to re-read it. I knew Emma died while pregnant, and that Choice and Gilbert died together - I guess I didn't realize the other losses that Grandpa Gilpin endured. The sadness must have overwhelmed him at times. I remember seeing a picture of him, sitting in a chair, wearing a plaid shirt, and he wasn't smiling at all. That picture is what I thought of as I was reading your story. I'll see if I can get a copy to post here.
