From the work of William Boyce White Jr. of Roanoke, Va:
Joseph married (Mrs.) Margaret G. (Durham) Aiken, daughter of John Durham, Esq., and widow of Thomas Aiken (d. 1819). Since the first husband died in 1819 and since Joseph Wallace Jr., had a son born in 1807, it appears obvious that Joseph Wallace was married twice. The name of the first wife is not known to the writer.

NOTES from Henny Carlisle:
Gravestone inscription: Joseph Wallace, 86yrs, 8m, 8d - this calculates to a birth date of 20 Jun 1777. Next to him is buried Jane Wallace, 30 years d. 1 Oct 1814.
Could that be his first wife? - If so then James A. b. 1818 and Sarah b. 1822 belong to the second wife, Margaret G. Durham. However, that brings the birth year of James b. 1818 in jeopardy. Margaret was widowed in 1819.
