Somerled, Jarl of one-third of Orkney 1014, was a "mild and verypeaceable man." He soon died (? 1015) a natural death, and Thorfinn, although Earl of Caithness and thus possessor of a full share of hisfather’s dominions, laid claim to Somerled’s third of Orkney. This wasdisputed by his half-brother Einar.
