William II Talvas Seigneur d' Alencon , Belleme Re: his name/title Talvas should be in quotes as it is a nickname/pet name. There are others unrelated who had the same sobriquet. He is aka: Guillaume II "Talvas" de Bellême, Sire d'Alençon [Ref: ES III:636] prince of Belleme, Seigneur of Alencon [Ref: Weis AR7 185:1] Note: perhaps "prince" in this case means "noble"... Curt Re: date of birth: abt 1018 [Ref: Moriarty p12] abt 1048 [Ref: Moriarty p11] (Note that father died: 1028 [Ref: Watney] ca 1028 [Ref: Moriarty p12] ca 1031 [Ref: ES III:636] so this appears in error. Moriarty p11 says his father died ca 1048 (to cover prev guess???)...Curt) Re: date of death abt 1060/70 [Ref: Moriarty p11 & 12] nach (after) 1055 [Ref: ES III:636] 1052 Castle of Domfront [Ref: FranceBalade] Re: marriages m1 bef 1050 Hildeburg [Ref: Watney #5], 1st marriage of Willem (Guillaume) [Ref: ES III:636], names Guillaume & Hildeburg (NN) [Ref: CP XI:686, Moriarty p11 & 12, Watney #5] Jim, note that you have dau Mabel/Mabile b. 1026. Also note that Turton may be the _only_ secondary source who names her de Beamont with the ancestry you show. m2 Haberga de Beaumont [Ref: ES III:636] which gives her parents as Raoul V Vicomte de Beaumont-sur-Sarthe de Grand-Montrevault et de Lude & Emma de Montrevault, Dame de Lude. Notes: kinsman of Robert, Duke of Normandy [Ref: Weis AR7 185:1] Note: I show he descends from Charlemagne, but know of no relationship to Robert I or II. Wilhelm II Talvas, Count of Belesme, d. 1050, an evil scoundrel in his own right, who had his wife strangled. [Ref: Tom Camfield 29 Feb 1996] Guillaume II (1033-1052) Son of Guillaume I Talvas and brother of Robert I. He married Hildeburge by whom he had three children: Robert, died in 1035, Arnoult died in 1052 just before his father and Mabille. He married secondly Godehilde, daughter of Raoul IV Viscount of Mans & apparently had no children by her. He also spent time fighting against the Count of Maine and Geoffroy I of Mayenne to keep Saosnois, profiting from the support of Guillaume Giroye. Guillaume II is known for his crimes. He had his wife, Hildeburge, strangled by his servants in a full street in Alencon when she went to the mass. He also mutilated one of his neighbors, Guillaume Giroye, who had helped him before. This caused a fatal vendetta between the two families. Guillaume II was then forced to seek refuge with Roger de Montgomery who had married his daughter Mabille. He died in 1052 at the castle of Domfront. [Ref: France Balade] Caveat Emptor: this was translated from French to English by AltaVista's Babelfish + I reworded it so it makes sense... Curt Research note: is Raoul V, Vicomte de Beaumont-sur-Sarthe de Grand-Montrevault the same as Raoul IV, Viscount of Mans? Regards, Curt
