BORN1925DIED2016TANNER, HANSPETER “JACK” Mr. Hanspeter “Jack” Tanner, 90, passed away Saturday, January 02, 2016. Hanspeter was born on June 21, 1925 in St. Gallen, Switzerland. He immigrated to the USA for his job when he was in his early 20’s, settling on Long Island, NY. He was Vice-President of North American operations for Wild Heerbrugg, a Swiss company. He spent 34 years with the firm, and later, he and his wife opened their own print shop. In retirement in Litchfield, CT, he drove an ambulance; worked at a local wine store and in real estate; and was a deacon of his church. Hanspeter spent many years as a member of Rotary International in Syosset, NY; Litchfield, CT and later in Waynesboro and Staunton, VA. He received the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award from that organization. Hanspeter was a talented concert pianist and an avid outdoorsman and cross country skier.Hanspeter was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie Bernet Tanner. He is survived by his four children, Elizabeth Tanner of Torrington, CT, Martin Tanner of Staunton, VA, Heidi Kittrell and husband, Jim, of Greenville, NC; and Paul Tanner and wife, Jennifer, of Storrs, CT; four grandchildren, Ryan Tanner, Jack Kittrell, David Kittrell, and Jim Kittrell, Jr; and two brothers in Switzerland, Walter and Kurt Tanner. He will be greatly missed by his many family and friends. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, 920 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834; East Carolina Council Boy Scouts of America, Pitt District, 313 Boy Scout Boulevard, Kinston, NC 28501; or to a charity of one’s choice.
