Gladys S. Day
MISSOULA- Gladys s. Day (also known as "Sally") passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, in Tucson, Ariz.
She was born Aug. 1, 1915, in Stevensville to Ed and Ica May Sims. She graduated from Stevensville High School in 1933. She married Kenneth J. Day in Missoula on June 2, 1934. They moved in 1935 to Missoula, where their daughters Carole and Patricia "Pat" were born. Gladys worked for the Day Mattress Factory for three years, Camp Fire offic 4 1/2 years and the U.S. Forest Service, where she retired after 20 years of service in 1977. After retirement, she worked on the switchboard at the Smokejumper Center for seven summers. During her career, Gladys received several certificates of merit and outstanding service awards.
She was an accomplished seamstress and loved sewing, flowers, golf, music, playing cards and traveling. Most of all she loved her family and many friends. She was a member of Electra Chapter 7, Order of Eastern Star, University Women's Golf Association, (where she was club champion for four seasons), "21" Club and Elk Ladies.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Ken; brothers, Clarence and Wendell; sister, Mabel Stewart; and grandson, John Baker.
She is survived by daughter, Carole Kamrath of Boise, Idaho, and her children, Robin (Darrel) Pewtress and Patti Baker; daughter, Pat (Jack) Curtis of Tucson and her children Lisa Curtis, Jim Curtis and Carole (David) Taylor; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Warren Sims (Rosemary) of Missoula; several nieces; a nephew; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held in Missoula at a later date. Memorials can be made to Parkinson's or cancer charities, or a charity of your choice.
