David SterlingCliffordDavid Sterling Clifford , born June 24th, 1959 in Little Rock, Arkansas, David Battled an evil disease, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) for 18 months until Wednesday night, March 7, when he went peacefully to join his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his wife, children, parents, brothers and a cloud of witnesses. David was the precious husband of Gigi Tuthill Clifford of Carmel, IND.; the beloved son of Judi and Ron Clifford of Hilton Head; the awesome father to Benjamin David Clifford (U S Army. Fort Benning, GA), Alexander John Clifford , Samuel Sterling Clifford , Jesse Thornton Clifford and Emma Coutermash all of Carmel, IND. David is also survived by his grandmother, Betty Rogers Canaday and brother Rogers (Connie) Clifford and sister Leslie Clifford Robinson (Ken) of Hilton Head. Brothers Curtis (Kim) Clifford and Doug (Lisa) Clifford of Tallahassee, FL. And Uncle Drew Rogers (Becky) of Little Rock, Ark. David 's favorite title was "Uncle Dave". Hilton Head nieces and nephews are Troy and Hanna Clifford and Ty and Jacey Robinson. Kaytlin, Joshua and Michael Clifford of Tallahassee and 25 others from Bowman family of Carmel, IND. Extended family are Cmdr and Mrs. Paul Galanti of Richmond, VA; "Uncle Hank and Aunt Connie" Richeson of Sandbridge, VA and Chuck and Jane Ellis of Fairfield, CT. And Mrs Elizabeth Polley of Carmel, IND. An old Polish proverb tells us that a person who is loved much has many names. Some of David 's names were: Christian, husband, father,son, Uncle Dave, brother, grandson, nephew, Cliff, Coach, Bro, Mr. C., friend, CFO, mentor and #1. And his official Camp Clifford number "3". David was passionate about people, life and especially football. Two weeks before his passing Dave was the guest of former New Orleans Saints and ALS patient Steve Gleason at the Super Bowl. He loved being able to play for the Carmel High School state championship team in 1978 and Anderson University nation championship team of 1982. Diagnosed with severe dyslexia at age five, David began a life long journey to never waste an single experience God gave him. Born with several serious birth defects, David sponsored many, many March of Dimes events. He became the poster child for Children with Learning Disabilities in 1965 and remained an advocate for helping kids the rest of his life. He served on the Board of Pace University. David was active as a coach for Carmel Pups Team; Carmel Football Team "The Old Greyhounds"; and being a mentor to many young boys and men. As his own four sons began to play baseball and football, David started his volunteer life as a coach and mentor to hundreds of boys. Sports were a challenge to David which he never gave up on and he was determined that every kid have the chance to play. David loved extreme sports. From water skiing, mountain biking, wrestling, heliocopter skiing to football, he loved the challenge and the comradery of competition. David spent his business career in the financial world; serving as Chief Financial Officer and finally President and Chief Operating Officer of Trademark Cinemas. David left us with his message "Hold the Line"....preserve against all odds....focus on the goal. David 's goal was serving His Lord through helping kids. After his ALS diagnose, David committed himself to raising awareness of the disease and raising funds for research. A service of the Celebration of David 's Life will be held at St. Luke's Church (50 Pope Ave, HHI) Saturday, March 17 at 1PM. The Rev. Greg Kronz officiating .
