Vera Elizabeth Bigger was born near Camden, Alabama on October 18, 1938. She died peacefully on July 31, 2014 at her long-term health care facility near Boulder, Colorado. She was 75 years old. Vera grew up in Camden and graduated from Wilcox County High School. She was a well liked friend by her classmates and a well recognized student by her teachers. Vera was selected as the valedictorian of her graduating class. Extramurally, she also excelled, being selected by students and faculty as Drum Majorette of the Marching Band and as Head Cheerleader for the sports teams. She left Camden in 1957 to attend college at Judson College in Marion, Alabama. She often recalled many fond memories from Wilcox County High School and Judson College. Vera and her high school (and later, life long) sweetheart, Daniel Lee Albritton ("Dan") were married in the Camden Baptist Church on August 1st, 1959. The couple lived briefly in Montgomery, Alabama, where Vera attended Huntington College. They moved to Atlanta to both continue college, and Vera graduated with honors from Emory University in 1962. In 1967, the couple moved to Boulder, Colorado, where Vera lived the rest of her life. She was the loving mother of three children: Daniel Miller Albritton, Carolyn Eliz Albritton (husband Jim McDonald), and Vivian Albritton Cox. She made it a special point to be at home when each of the children finished their school day, listening to each as they related the happenings of their day. Vera drove her children and other swimmers to and from an uncountable number of swim meets year round. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Her children are so grateful to remember her as a steady, loving presence during their childhood and youth that served as a caring foundation for their lives. When the youngest of the children left for college in 1987, Vera took a job as a sales associate at a Boulder department store. She stated that she had been on the "buying end" of things for many years, and she believed that what she had learned would be useful on the "selling end" of things. She was right. Vera was very often the top salesperson of the local store each year, and she received many awards for her performance. She loved her regular customers, and they, in turn, would seek her out for help. She worked for 15 years, retiring in 2003. In their retirement, she and Dan enjoyed traveling internationally together to many interesting places. Vera and Dan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and spouses in Boulder in August 2009. Vera is preceded in death by her parents Carolyn Curry Roberts and Samuel Johnston Bigger. She is also preceded in death by a very dear aunt, Vivian Curry. She has two brothers, John Paul Bigger and Tom H. Roberts Jr., as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is survived by her husband, her three children, and her two brothers. She was loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed in the lives of Dan, her children, and others. Her interment in the family lot in the Camden Cemetery was handled by Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home, assisted in Colorado by Darrell Howe Mortuary. The family requests that those who wish to honor Vera's memory do so through a donation to the Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, Maryland 20871, or through a donation to a charity of their choice
