Funeral services for Frederick Dent Raines, 80, of Ashburn will be held Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ashburn First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mr. Raines died unexpectedly Tuesday at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Ga.
Mr. Raines was born in Climax, Georgia, and was the son of the late Willie Ollie and Olga Dent Raines. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Arlines Methodist Church in Wrightsville, Ga. He was the retired owner and operator of Raines Service Station. Mr. Raines was an active member of the Masonic Sycamore Lodge #210 F. & A.M. currently serving as Secretary and Treasurer. He was also an active member of the Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany and was presently serving as President of the Turner County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #98.
As a loving family man he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma Martin Raines, Ashburn, Ga. his son and daughter in law, Scotty Dent & Melanie Raines of Sycamore, Ga.; his daughters and sons in law, Sherry & Dennis Summers, Sandra Hill, Sheila & Cliff Gibbs, and Susan & Benjy Gandy all of Ashburn, Ga. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michelle Summers (Josh) Owens, Megan Summers, Jason (Joy) Hill, Jennifer Hill, Mallory Gibbs, Lindsey Gibbs, Keri Gandy, Kayla Gandy (Jamie) Hughes, Kimberly Gandy, Celie Raines, Christian Raines, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Jewel Parker and Joy Hortman, both of Wrightsville, Ga. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Ralph Raines and one sister, Lotus Raines Wilson.
