Norma Dean Adkins, age 80 of Nancy, Kentucky, departed this life on Friday, June 7, 2013 at her residence.
She was born on May 14, 1933 in Ingle, Kentucky to Otha and Nell Lane Combest. Mrs. Adkins was a member of Saline Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family. Mrs. Adkins loved cooking big dinners on Sunday and having family and friends gather for food and fellowship. She was a housewife, plus she worked outside the home. Mrs. Adkins retired after 20 years from Lake Cumber Medical Center where her last position was unit secretary for the operating room. She loved the farm where she could raise a garden to have fresh and canned food for her family. Her hobbies were reading, bowling, gardening, canning and writing poetry.
She is survived by five sons, Terry (and Ruby) Adkins of Nancy, KY, Richard (and Anna) Adkins of Eubank, KY, Barton (and Debbie) Adkins of Bronston, KY, Mark (and Roberta) Adkins of Nancy, KY and Barry (and Rhonda) Adkins of Nancy, KY; three daughters, Loretta (and Ed) Miller of Camby, IN, Cindy (and Tom) Bolin of Nancy, KY and Lisa (and Robert) Mills of Somerset, KY; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Bernice Coomer of Ingle, KY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Lee Adkins, whom she married on 3/11/1950 at Somerset, Kentucky; and two sisters, Wanza Merrick and Jean Wilson.
Visitation for Mrs. Adkins will be on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Noah Broughton and Brother James Mills officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family request expressions of sympathy be made to the Saline Baptist Church or the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund.
