**Parent-son relationship to Jonathan Kitterell of Nansemond (Jonathan of 1704) is speculative and the original find and theory of Chief Scribe, but it is a realistic premise due to these enumerated factors:
(1) similarity between the spelling of the surname of the proposed father with that in 1704 of Jonathan Kitterell;
(2) location of the couple in England, which is the likely location of birth of many of those in the new lands of America;
(3) time period within twenty years of the probable birth year of Jonathan of 1704 who could have been born based upon the marriage anywhere from 1670 to past 1690 and based upon the land ownership in 1704 and the end of life in the mid-1740's anywhere from 1660 to 1683 or 1685; and easily as importantly
(4) Jonathan's first name son, as best we know, was John as would be expected for a Jonathan who was a son of a John.
It appears that neither the Kitterel or Attkings families were long time inhabitants of the Hawkesbury region. John's parents may have moved there as there was a prior marriage on July 13, 1666 of a Thomas Kitterell with a Margaret Hurne and no other prior marriages. On April 22, 1694 a Hannah Kitterel married a Sam Walker in Hawkesbury and then no further Kitterel/Kitterell marriages or for any similar names.
This is an ideal spot to place some of the histories, as transcribed, collected on the Kittrells of America.
