Hazel L. Dick, 83, of Somerset, KY., passed away August 17, 2012 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab. She was born October 17, 1928 in Pulaski County, KY. to the late Millard and Daisey Vaught Dick. Hazel graduated from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills Alberta, Canada. She was a Methodist minister for 17 years; served as a Supply Pastor in the United Methodist Church. She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Under Gov. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, she served as a consultant in setting up The State Comprehensive Care Centers. Hazel obtained her Associates Degree at Lindsey Wilson College. Then obtained her Bachelors and Masters degree in Science Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where she graduated with top honors. She was instrumental in setting up Aldersgate United Methodist Church Camp in Ravenna, KY. Hazel is survived by 19 nieces and nephews; and Brenda Denney, who was a special friend that helped care for her in her later years. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers; Vertus Dick, Jay Dick and Ezra Dick; and sisters: Thelma Rainwater, Jean Laviner, Winnie Moore and Edna Vaught. A celebration honoring the life of Hazel will be Sunday, August 19 from 2 - 5pm at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory. Somerset Undertaking & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
