"Richard Manning was born in Charles County, Maryland in 1774 and was younger than his brother, George. He came to the "Old 96th District" with the family. I have some records that he was in Pendleton District in 1820 and in DeKalb Co, GA with his nephews Walter and John in 1830 where he won land in the 1832 lottery. He was living in Paulding Co., GA on his land grant in the 1860 census at age 86. It is thought that he died in Paulding Co and is buried there. His wife was possibly named "___ Ragsdale", daughter of Elijah Ragsdale. Richard is not well traced, but it is known he had at least two children."- James G. Elgin, Work Sheet on the Manning Family of Charles County, Maryland, 15 Jan 2002.
1810 and 1820 Pendleton Co, SC census schedules suggest a son and daughter, both born between 1800-1810; no female old enough to be a wife is shown in either census.
