Ref: Surry County Records, Surry VA., 1652-1684, Books I and II, by Elizabeth Davison, page 131. "Page 71. Nov. 14, 1674/5 Power of Attorney from Thos. Marston to William Sherwood to collect balance of WM. ROLAND'S [sic ROWLAND] Bond." This seems to be the first reference to William Rowland in the Surry County records.
See notes under John Rowland, II in Dunbar Rowland's biographical sketch American Historical Society, op. cit, citing this as the second generation.
Ref: Surry County, op cit. page 172."Received of Wm. Edwards of Surry County, several entries relating to the cost of admittance of Probate: ... (includes) WM. ROWLAND------------ DAUGHTER BALY'S Estate, 5 March 1682/83." This appears to be Mary who is reported by some researcher as the wife of Edward Bailey. Mary is not mentioned in the will of Edward Bailey ,therefore she must have died died before her husband, but her daughter Mary Bailey is listed in the will of Edward Bailey.
