BIOGRAPHY: John Knox Lyle enlisted in the "Dixie Guards" underCaptain W C Hailslip at Pine Bluff Arkansas, 25 Jul 1861. This unit became Company F, 9th Arkansaw Infantry Regiment, CSA. Hew was appointed sergeant major of the regiment 1Sep 1863. It is said that hew was with the army in Virginia, took sick, was given a furlough and started for home. He reached the home of his Grandmother Lyle in Chester County, South Carolina where he died 23 Nov 1862 of consumption.
