Mr. Claxton R. Kittrell, age 86, of Soperton passed away on Wednesday evening, January 30, 2019 at Shamrock Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dublin.
Born in Sulligent, Alabama, he was the eldest son and one of six children born to the late Luther John and Pearl Mae Harris Kittrell, Sr. As a young man he lived in the Horseshoe Bend area of Wheeler County where he continued to live for many years. The son of a Sawmiller; he followed in the footsteps of his father and started a long career as a Sawyer in the Timber Industry at the early age of fourteen. He worked throughout his career with H.V. & T.G. Thompson Lumber Company in Ailey, various other saw mills throughout the state of Georgia and later with Thompson Hardwoods in Smarr, GA.
He had attended the Holy Church of God and was a member at Fellowship Holiness Church in Soperton.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Lou Hall and Dorothy Nell Lee as well as a brother, William Kittrell.
Mr. Kittrell leaves behind his children, Debbie Kittrell, Vidalia, GA, Kathy Gunn (Bobby), McRae, GA, Randy Kittrell, Dublin, GA, a sister, Charlene Peterson, Soperton, GA, a brother, L. J. Kittrell Jr., Dalton, GA, his former wife, Betty Ward Kittrell Patrick, Mt. Vernon, GA, a granddaughter, Ashley Thompson (Wendell) three great grandchildren, Jackson Wilson, Jude Thompson, EmmaLee Thompson, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Gene Helton and Reverend Kenny Edge officiating.
Mr. Kittrell will be laid to rest in the Peterson Family Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be: Pat Peterson, Jeffery Peterson, Scott Kittrell, Gary Angster, Josh Wood and Joseph Morris.
Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be: Martha Wood, Jean Kennedy, Jack and Betty Minton and Douglas and Ann McDaniel
His family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home.
