Joe Robert NeeleyJoe Robert Neeley, 99, passed peacefully from this earth into the loving arms of God on Monday, December 5, 2005. His family celebrates and honors his long, full, and inspiring life. Joe was born February 26,1906 in Chilichaktaw, Indian Territory (later to become the State of Oklahoma) to Robert Lee Neeley and Mollie Elizabeth Kidwell Neeley.Sports played a very special role in his life while in high school in Poteau, Okla. and in college, where he received a B.S. degree from Southeastern State Teachers College in Durant, Okla. Joe was a hard-working, outgoing, faithful, husband, father and grandfather. His life new many occupations from farm hand, team driver, soda clerk, teacher and football coach; but his career of 40-plus years was in the chemical industry with the Celanese and Stauffer Corporations, rising from a manual labor position during the depression to Vice President of Stauffer Chemical Corp. and President of West Virginia Malleable Iron Co. Joe impacted many lives both at work and in his many civic involvements: School Board President, Masons, Elks, Boy Scouts, Lions, Church boards and most recently a very active Wurstfest Senior Opa. He believed in community involvement and service to others. All those who have known Joe Neeley have been touched by his kindness, challenged by his work ethic, and inspired by his love for life and people. He truly enjoyed his life, loved those in his life and lived his life to the fullest.Along the way Joe lovingly raised a younger brother and sister and three children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Tom and Nova Neeley, his sister, Pearl Gilfoy, six half-brothers and sisters, and nieces Karen Gilfoy and Marvina Baning. He is survived by his eternally grateful family: his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Elizabeth Simpson Neeley; daughters Dr. Claudia (Bette) Neeley-Plog, Sarah (Sally) Metschan and husband Mike; son, Dr. Joe R. (Bud) Neeley, Jr. and wife, Karen; grandchildren Dr. Tracy and Jason Crawford, Susan Neeley, Brent and Shelly Metschan, Kent and Kerrie Metschan, Josiah Neeley and Zachary Neeley; great-grandchildren, Adrian and Nathan Crawford and Margot Metschan; nephews Bob Neeley and Bob Gilfoy; nieces Melinda Bennett, Hilda Martens and Gladys Cornu with their spouses and families; and a multitude of friends. A memorial service celebrating the life of Joe Neeley will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 572 W. San Antonio, New Braunfels, Texas, 78130.
