The case binding is covered with brown leather, which is badly worn and separated from the text block. Each leaf is approximately 8 inches by 10 inches. The paper has yellowed and there are stains, specks, spots and blotches in the paper. The bible is the King James Version. The title page and part of the Book of Genesis are missing from the beginning of the bible and the Books of II John, III John, Jude and Revelation are missing from the end. The title page to the New Testament is also missing. The bible does not include the Apocrypha. The family history was recorded on the last page of the Old Testament and on next page, which was blank. The Walker - Thomasson Family Bible appears to be an Isaac Collins bible. Isaac Collins printed the first "Family Bible" in America beginning in 1791. Chain of Custody: Originally this Bible was in the Walker family in Virginia and North Carolina. It passed to Elizabeth Nichols (Betsy) Walker (born 1791, Granville Co., NC). Betsy married William Thomasson (born 1781, Louisa Co., VA) in June 1806 in Granville Co., NC. The Bible then passed to Richard Thomasson (born 1817, Wilson Co., TN) and wife, Rachel Louisa Shelby (born 1824, Pope Co., IL). They lived most of their lives in Massac Co., Illinois. Thereafter, the Bible passed to (1) Richard Perry Thomason and wife, Malissia Wallace, (2) Charles Alexander Thomason and wife, Laura Hartness, (3) Perry Hugh Thomason and wife, Mable Cotter, and (4) Keith Thomason and wife, Betty Joyce Wheeler. The Bible is now in the possession of John R. Thomason and wife, Melissia A. Henry. Supplemental Information: Elizabeth Nichols Walker, the same person as Elizabeth Nichols, was called Betsy. She was born in 1791 in Granville County, North Carolina. Betsy Walker's father was Julius Walker (born 1759, probably in VA and possibly NC). Julius Walker married Mary Homes on November 6, 1788 in Granville Co., NC. Family tradition says that Betsy's mother was Mary James. However, the marriage bond shows her tley Thomasson was born on 4 Aug 1822. He died on 30 May 1888.
Wiley married Julia A. Baker. Julia was born in 1827.
