1 NOTE John Thomas Ferguson, aged 84, well known retired planter ofPottsville, died Thursday morning at St. Mary's hospital hereafter several weeks' ikllness. Funeral services will be held atPisgah cemetery east of Russellville, Friday afternoona t 2:30with Rev. C. T. Bryson, pastor of the Pottsville AssociateReformed Presbyterian Church conductin the service. Gardner-Patefuneral Directors will be in hcarge of burial. Pall bearers willbe: Harold Stewart, Boyce Sinclair, John Stewart, Wade Daniels,Argle Davis, G. C. Owens, Ples Taylor, Lenoard Daniels and J. F.Henry.
Mr. Ferguson was the son of William and Rose Ferguson, pioneersfrom the Carolinas, and was born and lived his entire life atthe same homestead 4-1/2 miles south of Pottsville. He marriedwhen a young man to Miss Florence Oates. After her death he wasmarried to Mrs. Mackie Henry Ferguson and his wife, who survivesand who de married at this second wife's death was Mrs. LillieMorton Porter. He is also survived by one son, by the lastmarriage, John Thomas Ferguson, Jr., of Pottsville, and astep-dauhter, Mrs. I. E. Jones of Russellville.

Calvin Greer Oates, one of th oldest residents of Pope County,died at his home in this city yesterday morning. He waspreceeded to the grave by his wife less than a week ago.Funeral Services were conducted this morning by Rev. E. E.Strong, pastor of the A.R. Prebyterian Church, of which thedeceased was a member, and intermnet was made at the PisganBurying Ground. Mr. Oates was 71 years of age and had lived inthis county more than fifty years where he followed farming as apursuit. At the beginning of the Civil War, he joined theConfederate army and did valiant service throughout the struggleexcept for a period of about 16 months when he was confined ina northern presion. SHortly after the war, he was married andof this union were born four children, Miss Elizabeth, Edgar,Mack and Mellville. In 1886 he married Mrs. Mattie Ferguson andof this union no children were born. Mr. Oates always stood forwhat was best. He was a good citizen, a kind father and aconsistent Christian. His upright life and good example havebeen worth much to the county and we are better for his havingpassed this way. We extend condolence to the bereaved ones inthis their hour of grief.
