The family of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McKeown of this city were reunitedSeptember 22 in a double celebration, which was the golden weddinganniversary of Mr. and Mrs. McKeown and was also the wedding day fortheir youngest son, Cave McKeown, who that morning married Miss Phala MaeLake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Lake of Jacksonville.
Those attending the homecoming, reception, and dinner includedchildren, grandchildren, and friends of the older couple, in addition tothe bride's family. They were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Cave McKeown and Miss Lake were united in marriage earlier in theday, the bride wearing the wedding ring which her mother-in-law wore ather marriage 50 years before.
Notes of Nelda Steele, granddaughter of James Thomas McKeown state thatJames Thomas was a farmer, part-time mail carrier, an ice-house worker,and a night watchman for a box factory. He was called Tommy and did notdrink or smoke. However, he did use "colorful" language. He had anabundance of hair, which did not begin to gray until he was in his 70s,as well as a mustache. Height was about 5 feet, 9 inches, and weightwas about 140. He had brown eyes. Well into his 90s he was stillchopping wood for his wood stove.
