Obituary from the Pine Bluff Commercial, Tuesday, June 1, 1971, page 1 -- Pine Bluff Lumberman, James L. Leslie, Dies -- James Lester Leslie, 80, of 1610 Poplar Street, a lumberman for many years, died Monday at Jefferson Hospital. He was operating the Jack L. Leslie Lumber Company, wholesale and commission lumber dealers, at the time of his death. A son of the late William J. and Almyra Elizabeth Adams Leslie, he was born near Warren. He was reared in Warren and graduated from the Presbyterian Training School there. He attended Tyler Business College at Tyler, Texas. As a young man he was associated with the Arkansas Lumber Company at Warren. He organized the Leslie Lumber Company in 1919 at Lake Village and in 1926 moved to Pine Bluff. He eventually operated 11 yards in Arkansas and Missouri. He organized the Leslie Lumber Company at Third and Pine Street here and operated a sawmill here. He was a member of the D. H. Reynolds Masonic Lodge at Lake Village, the Scottish Rite Consistory, the Sahara Shrine Temple and the Unite Commercial Travelers. He was instrumental in the organization of the Boy Scout program in Pine Bluff and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He was ruling elder of the Hickory Springs Associate Reform Presbyterian Church at Warren. Survivors include three sons, James W. Leslie of Pine Bluff, William R. Leslie of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Dr. Charles M. Leslie of New York; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Mortuary. The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to the Dunlap Orphanage at Brighton, Tennessee, or the Hickory Springs Presbyterian Church at Warren, in care of J. H. Leslie, 304 East Church Street, Warren. The family will be at the James W. Leslie residence at 608 WEst 20th Avenue.

Calvin Smith and Reverend Vernie Bartlett. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bellwood cemetery at Pine Bluff by Ralph Robinson & Son Mortuary of Pine Bluff. Pallbearers will be Wilmont Green, Elmer Owen, Curtis St. John, Hugh Lanier, Jesse Shipley, Ross Pennington, Samuel M. Leslie and Kim Hendrick.
