Funeral Service Held Saturday for William W. Barnett
William W. Barnett, age 84, 104 E. 3rd, died March 26th in a McAlester hospital. Mr. Barnett was born September 9, 1886 in Kentucky, the son of William Wesley and Maude (Hancock) Barnett. Mr. Barnett was a retired civil service employee, a member of the Colgate Masonic Lodge, a former county commissioner of Coal County and state employee. He and Clara Smith were married September 1, 1964 in Atoka. Services were held at the Atoka Funeral Home on Saturday March 27th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Griffin officiating. Burial was in the Colgate cemetery under the direction of the Atoka Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Clara of the home; 1 daughter, Mrs. Mildred Matthews, Atoka, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Nellie Gibson, Wynnewood, and Lella Wallace, Sapulpa.

Note: The above stated parents of William W. Barnett are not consistent with other sources of information which shows him as son of Lucille Keene Hutcherson and Nathaniel Thomas Barnett. The first 2 of the following censuses consistently show him as a child of Lucy and Nathan T. Barnett and had been born in Arkansas.
1. 1890 Chickasaw Nation Census:
This census shows Willie (6 yrs old) with parents Thomas and Lucy Barnett. They were living on the W.T. Shannon farm, renting Indian Lands. It referred to Sec 1-12 T 6 N R 2 W, McClain County.
2. Federal 1900 Indian Territory Census, Chickasaw Nation.
This census shows Willie W. (16 yrs old) with parents Nathan T. and Lucy K. Barnett. It shows him born Sept 1883 in Arkansas.
3. Federal 1910 Okalahoma, Garvin County, Walker Township, City of Wynnewood. This census shows him as a head of household (26 yrs old) with his spouse as Annie, born in TX. They had been married for 2 years and had 1 child, Mildred, 1 year old. He was operating a hardware store.
4. Federal 1920 Oklahoma, Coal County, City of Lehigh
This census shows him as a head of household (36 yrs old) with his spouse as Annie, born in TX. They have one child with them, 10 year old Mildred, born in OK.
The Garvin County Marriage Book II (1907-1929) shows:
Barnett, William W. (25) to Anna Johnson (25) 7 Aug 1908. It states that Anna was a widow.
