From John CRAIN to Marcia CUSSINS:

I have two sets of information concerning the B in Edward B. Anderson's name. The first and oldest of the two sets of information came from my grandmother Inez Anderson Crain and her sister Mae Anderson Looney both of whom are now dead. They both knew that their great-grandparents were Edward Bell Anderson and Mary Hodge Seymour. The Edward Burwell Anderson information came from Pauline Greening Ruby who was a first cousin to my grandmother. Pauline Ruby worked on the Anderson, Seymour, Parr and Mendenhall lines between the late 40's and the early 80's. She also stated in some of her early research the same information that my grandmother gave me about Edward Bell Anderson and Mary Hodge Seymour. She also jumped to numerous conclusions concerning the other three lines that were common with my grandmother that I have been able to successfully disprove. After Pauline Ruby died, her daughter donated some of her mother's books to the local library. One of them was VIRGINIA COUSINS which deals with the genealogy of the GOODE family of Virginia. In particular it deals with a pair of brothers named Churchwell ANDERSON and BURWELL ANDERSON. This, undoubtedly, is where the BURWELL bit for the B in Edward B. Anderson's name comes from. I am more inclined to think that the information that my grandmother gave about the B being BELL is correct. .....

....While working on restoring my grandmother's house, I found a "butterfly chart" that Pauline Ruby did in watercolor and charcoal for my grandmother most likely in the early 70's when she moved back to Arkansas from California. The chart lists Edward BELL Anderson and Mary H. Seymour as the parents of Samuel William Anderson. It also lists what she thought she knew about my grandmother's Garner ancestry. Grandma knew otherwise but never could persuade Pauline that she was wrong. This butterfly chart lists Edward B. Anderson as the son of a John Anderson.

I have looked back at some of the published charts that Pauline sent to the Ouachita-Calhoun Co., Genealogical Society, one of which lists Edward BELL (again) ANDERSON as the son of a JOHN ANDERSON of SCOTLAND.
