Biography
Marian DeArmond Kirkpatrick White, 98, of Fountain Inn Nursing Center in Fountain Inn, SC died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, SC. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2445 Highway 557, Clover, SC with visitation at 10:00 AM at the church. Reverend John A. Gess will officiate. Interment will be held 3:30 PM in Old Purity Cemetery, Great Falls Road, Chester, SC 29706 with Dr. John Y. Todd, III officiating.
Mrs. White was born in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Hugh DeArmond Kirkpatrick and Jennie Martha Galloway Kirkpatrick. She graduated from Charlotte City Schools and Erskine College. She was a public school teacher in Charlotte and Shelby, NC. She was active in the Shelby Presbyterian Church, the Junior Charity League, the Ex Libris Book Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Most recently she lived at Lake Wylie (SC) Assisted Living Center and Fountain Inn (SC) Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, David Phillips White, and two brothers, J. Watt Kirkpatrick and Robert G. Kirkpatrick. Survivors are a daughter and her husband, Jane W. and E. Boyd Stokes of Bath, SC; a son and his wife, David P. Jr. and Marsha R. White of Fountain Inn, SC; two grandsons, Ed Stokes, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and David P. “Chip” White, III and his wife Lori of Simpsonville, SC and two great-grandchildren, Gresham and Rachel White.
