Dear Brother and Family,
I have been thinking for some time of writing you all but
have just beenputting it off till I guess you think I have
forgotten you, or perhaps youall have forgotten me, so I thought
I would write and let you know that I amstill living yet. John,
I guess you have heard that I am married. I wasmarried the 25 of
September. We had a very quiet time of it. We didn't letanyone
know about it till I came home from the mill that evening at
sixo'clock. I worked till stopping time, when I came home and
told my Auntsabout it or told them that I was going to get
married that night. Theydidn't believe it till I began to dress,
and it wasn't long till the preachercame. Then they believed it.
Well, I guess you want to know who I married.Well, of course you
won't know who it is when I tell you for you never seenhim, but I
can tell you his name so you will know that much. I married a
manby the name of Wylie. ha ha. He said for me not to call him
that, his nameis Samuel M. Wylie. Now I have it. He makes me
call him Mr. Wylie. ha ha.He thinks he can make me call him that
but he can't. I call him Old Sam.That is it, isn't it, John.
You know it is prettie hard to make a Webb doanything. You might
lead a Webb but you can't drive them, isn't that so,John? ha ha.
Sam is sitting here now. He says he can lead or drive me.
Itold him this is one time he is fooled in his life if he thinks
that. Surefate. Well, John, when are you all coming to see us.
I want you all to comeand see how McAdenville looks. John, I
don't know when we will go to housekeeping. I expect it will be
some time before we can get a house. I am notgoing to work in
the mill any more. Sam won't let me. We are boarding atAunt
Kate's, yet I guess we will stay here till we get a house. I am
realanxious to go to keeping house so I will have something to
do. I wish Icould come to see you all now, but we are two poore
to go anywhere yet. Ihope the time will come when we can go
somewhere. John, have you seenCharlie since he moved out there?
Don't you think he has never written methe scratch of a pen since
he left here. I don't know what is the matterwith him. I guess
he has got like Minnie. He is too rich to write to poorefolks.
John, don't you think Minnie came out here and she never did
comeanywheres near to see me. She went to see all of the rest,
but I was beneithher notice, but that is all right with me. I am
glad to know they are doingso well. Hope they won't never fall
low enough to put theirselves down withthe poor class, especialy
the ones that are as poore as myself. But I didn'tknow that
Charlie and Dora could get so rich as to forget their kin that
wasso poor. But I have been a factory girl; I guess that was
what was thematter with them. I guess that is the reason Minnie
didn't come to see me; Iworked in the mill. Well, I will have to
close. How are you all gettingalong John? You all can write to
me. Now do. Please write me a long letterand tell me how you
are all getting along. Kiss Mary for me and all of thechildren.
I wish I could see you all today. I guess you all are
pickingcotton. Are you most done? Aunt Kate, Matt, and Nan send
lots of love andkisses to you all so I will close now. Do write
and tell me everything youknow for I am so anxious to hear from
you all. Mr. Wylie joins me in sendinglots of love and kisses to
you all. Write soon and a long letter to yourloving sister.

Letter written to her sister-in-law, Etta Lorain Wylie
(Carithers).
McAdenville, N. C.
Dec. 5, 1902
Dear Etta,
I guess you think I have treated you bad again but I didn't
mean to be solong answering your letter but I have such a cross
baby and I have an oldlady staying with me and she has been sick
and I have been sick myself so Ijust haven't had the chance to
write to any one but thought I would writethis morning and send
you our baby's picture. It has been taken some timebut still
looks like her. You ask me in your last letter if we ever got
yourchildren's pictures. Yes, we received them all O. K. and
think them so sweetand nice. Etta, I thought all the time that
Sam had written you and thankedyou for the sweet little pictures
so I got after him about it. I told him Iknew you thought we
didn't appreciate them but we did. I don't want you tothink that
way. You will have to look over our carelessness. Well, it
hascome winter at last and it is sure cold here today. It has
been raining allthis week till today it is clear and cold. We
had some snow here the firstof the week but it didn't stay with
us any longer than it hit the ground itmelted well. We heard
from home this week. Sam got a letter from hismother, said
Nannie was improving some but slowly. Poor Nannie sure has hada
bad time of it. She has been sick so long I sure feel sorry for
them. Ithasn't been long since your mother was sick so long and
now Nannie has hadsuch a spell. Well, as it is late, I will
close. I am going to the officeto mail this. bye bye. Write
soon and a long letter. Love to you all andkisses to the
children. Lovingly,
Clyde Wylie
