The Cabool Enterprise, December 30, 1948:
Melvina Isaelle Boles, daughter of Daniel and Armanda Boles was born near Greenville, Tenn., on Oct. 30, 1863. She came with her parents to Missouri in a covered wagon at the age of seven. She departed this life at her home near Elk Creek on Dec. 19, 1948 age 85.
On November 7, 1879 he was united in marriage to George E. Sigman at Willow Springs, Mo., to this union was born 14 children, eight sons and six daughters. Two children, Elmer and Amelia Elliott preceded her in death. Eleven of her children were by her bedside when the heavenly gates swung open so silently and gently to receive her spirit to await the coming of her Lord. She was converted in her early married life and united with the Methodist Church and lived a true devoted Christian life, she served her Master by sacrificing her all to her home, her church and to those who were in need. She was a wonderful Bible scholar and was constantly found reading the Book she loved so well. She used her Bible day by day as her guiding star and refuge. God had blessed her with a wonderful rugged constitution which not only served her well, but which she had passed on as a priceless heirtage to her children. She had no school advantages and so was not educated in books, but she possessed an education in the fine art of motherhood and homemaking and Christian integity which could not be excelled. She had the joy of knowing at one time that all her children had been converted. She leaves to mourn her departure her aged and devoted companion of 69 years and the following children, Louie Potts of Simmons, Mo., Elsie Altis of Houston, George, Dave, Will, Fred, Bob and Homer of Elk Creek, Oscar of Ventura, Calif., Mayme Harmon of Maywood, Calif., Stella Rust of Cabool, Mabel Stouse of Waverly, Ill., she is also survived by 42 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren, one sister Joan Green, of Okla., age 92, and her friends beyond number. A noble and useful life come to a close but her influence will live on and on. Funeral services were held at Steely Chapel on Dec. 22, 1948 conducted by Rev. Payton Smyer assisted by J.J. Carty and songs by the Franklin quartet, beautiful floral offerings. Pallbearers were six sons who carried her so tenderly to her last resting place. Burial was in charge of Elliott Funeral Home.
Dear loved ones and freinds met today
To lay this lifeless form away
To await the coming of the Lord
As He has promised in His word
The Lord himself entered her tomb
To drive away the dismal gloom
And bring Salvation full and free
To crown her grave with Victory
