PARENTAGE OF Thomas
In West & Fauntleroy's research they state as a matter of fact that Thomas Muse was son of John, "Thomas; of whom hereafter" and then state that Ann was a probable daughter.  The only evidence I found in their works was in Vol. 53, Issue 4, Page 312, "Virginia Magazine of History and Biography".  In this issue they referenced a deposition from Richmond Co. Va. made by Samuel Templeman 31 December 1831.  This deposition concerned the bounty warrant papers of Richard Muse Jr.

I quote.  "I Samule Templeman of the said county, aged nearly seventy-four years, do hereby testify on oath that I was well and intimately acquainted with Richard Muse(Jr) from a youth until his death, having been born and raised in the same neighborhood.  (Further in the De position he states) He married a Miss Strother of King George Co., by whom he had the following children, Catherine who married James Hackney, Alexander P. Muse, Fanny, Harriet, Elizabeth, Richard(III), Henry, Lucy, and Meridith Muse, the most of the children I was well acquainted.  I further state upon oath, that I was well acquainted with Meredith Muse the brother of Richard Muse(Jr) who live with Thomas Muse on the eastern shore of either of Maryland or Virginia."  end quote.
To better explain the above quote, John Muse and Mary Sanford had son's, Richard and Thomas.  Richard Muse (son of John) and wife Margaret (Payne-Muse)Muse they had a son named Richard Jr. and Meredith and Richard Jr Muse who married Elizabeth Strother had son's named Richard III and Meredith (name sake to great Uncle)  The Meredith that is stated to be living with Thomas would the son of Richard brother to Thomas.  So in the above statement of Samule Templemen identifies the Wife and all of the children of Richard Jr., which does not include a Thomas Muse but places Meredith, Richard Jr.'s Brother in Thomas's household. ; So Thomas would have to have been an Uncle to Meredith for West and Fauntleroy to state that Thomas was a son of John.  Other information that can not be ignored and can not be pure coincidence is that Thomas named one of his sons Richard and the other Thomas Sanford Muse.  The name Sanford can be traced back to his mothers surname, Sanford.
CHILDREN OF Thomas
The children of Thomas Muse and Sarah Chattin are proven by Thomas's Will, dated 20 October 1754 and proved 16 May 1755 in Christ Church Parish, Upper Precinct of Lancaster County Va.
"To Wife Sarah, whole estate during her widowhood and should she marry then what the law allows in such cases; "my two little sons Richard and Thomas Sanford Muse attend to be maintained out of the properties of my estate and schooled".  executors wife Sarah, John Hill and John Hill Jr."

Thomas left his estate to his wife Sarah during her widowhood, and if she remarried he instructed that "my two little sons Richard and Thomas Sanford Muse . . . be maintained out of the properties of my Estate."  Will of Thomas Muse, 20 Oct 1754, proved 16 May 1755, Lancaster Co., Virginia.
