20th edward 111 (1347) by an inquest taken, Sir Walter Bygot appears to be Lord, and in the 4th Richard 11.(1381) Walter son of Sir Walter, William Bygot, son of Walter dying sans issue in the 14th of henry 1V(1413) it then passed to his 3 sisters and coheirs but his mother isabel who was married to John Dorward Esq. held it for life.
10 Dec 1348 he had lands at Dengie (Danesey), Essex, of the prior of Tackley,
8 may 1369 had license to let on lease to John de Beverle for life at 200L rent, the Manors of Alfreston and Marham. If John survive Walter he shall retain the lands without rent. [patent rolls]
27 Nov 1372 He died, his Inquisition being held at Dunmow in Dec. 1372,and again on 6 apr 1381, [Inquisition in R.O.C. 135/227 and 136/12] it was found that he held Alfreston Manor of the King by knight service. "there are there a messnage worth nothing p.a.,400 acres of land worth 10 marks, 20 acres of meadow worth 40/, 20 acres of pasture worth two marks, 20 acres of wood and underwood worth 20/, rents of assize L1 10s. od,and view of frankpledge 6/8. Walter son of Thomas son of Walter Bygod is his grandson and heir, aged over twenty one".
