I found dozens of newspaper articles about him, B. E. Braziell and his wife, Madge, in the early 1900s. After Saratoga Springs, they seem to have lived in the Oswego area and he was an officer in the Salvation Army, running the organization there for a while.
1905: Albany paper says that some folks are angry at his putting out boxes to collect money for a dinner and housing for poor people in Albany. There is a claim that he is not a proper officer anymore of the Salvation Army (note that if he were an officer before 1905, he must have done a good job since he is reinstated later. He claims in one story that he and his family have trouble living on the money they receive for the work they do in one story later.) He promises to file proper records and that he will spend money as stated.
1910-1911: He is listed in the papers as an Ensign of the Salvation Army in Ogdensburg NY, about 150 miles NE of Oswego, on the St. Lawrence. 1911 he is holding a Tag Sale for the benefit of the Salvation Army in Odgensburg. He must have been involved with the Salvation Army here before moving to Oswego area. A few other articles from the St, Lawrence paper for 1910 and 1911.
1911-1916: He is named the officer in charge of the Oswego Salvation Army. The Oswego papers are dated about 1911, 1912, 1913, and he makes it into the Syracuse papers once in a while, which is near Oswego. 1911 paper lists him as Captain, later he is a Lt. Major.
1915 mentions that Edwin is visiting relatives (unnamed) in Dolgeville which may support that Madge is from there (but it could also be [his grandfather] Peter Braziell nearby in Little Falls. He died in 1916 in Little Falls.. Peter would have been living with Fannie, his common law wife, or boarding there. It is unclear to us if he married her or was just boarding with her, and she did not mention this until she tried to collect his war pension about 12 years later).
1916: This seems to have been back in Odgensburg, where there was an arraignment. There is mention of a burglary of their home above the Salvation Army offices where they scared off the armed intruder at night.
1916-1917: He held some revivals, one article is from an Auburn NY paper and dated January 31, 1917, one dated 1916.
1920 Census - Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
1921: By 1920s he is associated with running the Children's home in Allentown, PA. He takes the Orphan Children's Band, a few talented children, on a tour of the New York area to perform and fundraise. As we know, he and Madge stay in Allentown until they pass. Volunteers of America Day Nursery and Children's Home.
1930 Census - Still with Children's home in Allentown.
I did not find record of his death, no obituary or Social Security record. I did find Madge, she died in 1966, there is a Social Security record. She is also listed in an index of obituaries in the Easton Public Library collection (Easton PA) the article dated March 15, 1966, so she died before that.
I did find, in the same index, an obituary for Edwin E Braziell, two were printed, one July 2, the second July 5, 1958. I do not have copies of these. I have not looked or found more on Frieda.
I saw somewhere that Edwin and Esther had 3 children but I need to look into that. I found a newspaper article, 1942, about a 16 year old girl named Fay Braziell from Allentown, who might be his daughter.
There are still Braziells in that area. Edwin W in the 1990s in Northampton County, which is just north of Allentown PA, and another young man, I do not see that now, but he also lived in the area mid to late 1900s.
