"I was born on the Carl Oatman Homestead, on Johnson Creek, June 20, 1915. My first memory was shortly before my father died. I was taking him a cup of coffee, when he was in bed, and very scared I would spill it on the floor.
"I stayed on the ranch until the spring of 1934, then went to work at Coulee Dam for about 4 years. . . .I continued working construction in the five western states. Also on Coulee Dam in Washington; Hungryhorse Dam in Montana, Boundary Dam in Washington, Box Canyon Dam in Washington, Cabinet Gorge Dam in Idaho, Chief Joseph Dam in Washington, Shasta Dam in California. At Coulee Dam where I began construction work, I started as a laborer. As the years and time went by, I improved my skills to where on my last job I retired as a Rigging Superintendent for Westinghouse Electric. All together I spent about 15 years at the Coulee Dam Project.
"I retired in September 1976 and we went south for 7 years to Arizona for the winters. It finally got too crowded and expensive, so we settled down again in Spokane, Washington, where we still reside.
"Since retirement, I have kept busy at my longtime hobby of Pitching Horsehoes. The last 2 years I have been in the top 5 in the state of Washington. I belong to the National Horsehoe Pitchers Assn. I am a 35-year member of Ireonworkers Local #14. I am also a permanent member of the Masonic Lodge F & AM at Coulee Dam; and a past member of the Oriental Shrine 32 and the Scottish Rite in Spokane."
