'SPIKE' MONTANYE
Mayfield -- Sanford L. "Spike" Montanye, 77, of North Main Street, died Thursday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken at home.
Mr. Montanye was born in Riceville. He was a 1940 graduate of Gloversville High School and a graduate of the General Electric Apprentice Program.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Montanye served as a cadet and flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
For many years, he worked at the General Electric Co., Schenectady. Later, Mr. Montanye transferred to Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Niskayuna, where he was a contract administrator until retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Mayfield Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mr. Montanye was a lifetime member of the GE Apprentice Alumni Association; and a member of the GE Quarter Century Club; and the GE Kermis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn W. Wemple Montanye, whom he married Dec. 23, 1944; two daughters, Karen M. Lent of Scotia and Susan M. Montanye of Mayfield; a sister, Annamae Tomlinson of Gloversville; a brother, Eldon "Tuffy" Montanye of Gloversville; and two grandsons.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Union Rural Cemetery.
