TUNKHANNOCK — David W. Hopkins Jr., 79, passed away on Feb. 7, 2014. David was under the care of Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock. David and his wife, Mary, were married 55 years. Mary departed this life on Feb. 4, 2014. Dave has "caught up" with her and they enter the Kingdom of Heaven together.
Dave resided in the Vienna/Great Meadows area of New Jersey for more than 40 years. He was employed by the M&M/Mars Candy Co. in Hackettstown from 1956 to 1993.
Upon retirement, Dave and Mary moved to Noxen to be closer to most of their immediate families. His bond with friends in New Jersey remained tight through the end, with several continuing to make trips to Pennsylvania to visit and reminisce of the times they spent together. While Dave resided in New Jersey, he was an active member of the Vienna United Methodist Church. After retiring and relocating to Noxen, he became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Dallas.
Dave and Mary made family their top priority. If there was a need, they were always there, offering their assistance and support in any manner possible. Dave's favorite pastime was spending time with nieces and nephews. His jovial manner always gave
way to plenty of giggles and laughs. If a child was visiting for a week, every day was planned with fun-filled outings at parks and various other activities. You didn't visit Uncle Dave and Aunt Mary without going to Wild West City or The Land of Make Believe! An avid bowler and card player, Dave lent his skills to many a child. No matter what game you were playing, you could rest assured there was always M&M's in one of his collectible dispensers to satisfy your sweet tooth! Wiffle ball was the favorite outdoor game, and the shores of Treasure Lake and Cape May were host to many a game with Uncle Dave! He also enjoyed visiting his friends in Maine yearly. Another travel memory was taking his parents on a trip to Florida, visiting Walt Disney World. We are fortunate to be left with the knowledge that Dave had a most fulfilling and blessed life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred (Patton) and David W. Hopkins Sr.; and brother Thomas. David is survived by sister, Susan Pallone (Leroy), Courtdale; and brothers Kenneth (Susan), Aberdeen, Md., and John (Ann), Dallas; sister-in-law, Patricia Hopkins; and many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Nulton-Kopcza Funeral Home,
5749 state Route 309, Beaumont, Monroe Township. There will be no calling hours.
