Johanna "Schutte" Brunink of McBain, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Autumnwood of McBain. She was 89 years old
Johanna was born December 3, 1919 in Highland Twp., Osceola County to Harm and Anna (Ellens) Heuker. She married Richard Schutte in September 1940 at the Highland Christian Reformed Church, and he preceded her in death on August 27, 1982. She married Lawrence Brunink on June 9, 1989 at the Lucas Christian Reformed Church.
Jo had worked at BF Goodrich in Cadillac and had done private housekeeping for many years. She was a member of the Lucas Christian Reformed Church, the Ladies Aid, the Grow Group, choir, and the Bible study.
She was a lady extraordinaire who had a real gift for hospitality. She was a wonderful wife and friend and cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Brunink of McBain; children, Jay (Roberta) Schutte of McBain, Ruth (Ron) Davis of Grand Rapids, Mary Ratliff of Hudsonville and Carol (Jerry) Snoeyink of Jenison; daughters-in-law, Vickie Schutte of McBain and Marianne (Glen) Coughenour of Traverse City; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Den (Cindy) Brunink of Columbia, S.C., Phil (Carol) Brunink, Brian (Tarin) Brunink and Tom (Caroline) Brunink, all of McBain, Pat (Mike) Baas of Hudsonville and Bonnie (Dan) Schripsema of McBain; 26 step-grandchildren; 34 step-great-grandchildren; in-laws, Helene Heuker, Henrietta (Anthony) Hemmes and Betty (Carl) Hofstra, all of Grand Rapids, Coby King of Hudsonville, Calvin (Norma) Schutte of Hamilton and Gerald (Marcia) Schutte of Belmont and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sons, Paul and David Schutte; brothers, Harry, Henry, and John Heuker; sisters, Jenny King, Jeanette Lucas, Winnie Bratt, Susie Heuker, Margaret Heuker, and Gertrude Malmaker.
Visitation: Saturday, October 10, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, October 11, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain.
Funeral Services: Monday, October 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Lucas Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Steve VanNoort officiating.
