The elder Carbin was the son-in-law and business partner of Lodewijk Abbensets, a wealthy planter who moved from Berbice to Suriname (Nickerie). Abbensets had children with at least three wives/partners, and his descendants are pretty well known as there are extensive records available (in archives in the Netherlands) on Abbensets' wills and in these one can find quite a few details of the disagreements he (Abbensets) appears to have had with his son-in-law (Carbin) included in the texts of the wills.
