TROY - Mrs. Mary H. (Gillie) Spickler, of Marshall Street, Troy, NY, died Friday, April 26, 2002 at the residence of her daughter after a lengthy illness.
Born in Hoosick Falls, NY, daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Milanese) Salluzzo. Wife of the late Wilson Lloyd Gillie and John F. Spickler.
Mother of Margaret Aurelius and Anthony Gillie, both of Troy, and the late John Gillie of Cohoes. Sister of; Jenny Leonard, Gemeline Flemming and Gene Salluzzo, all of Hoosick Falls. Sister of the late Eleanor Murphy, Anthony, Joseph Jr., Alphonso, Frederick, Louis Salluzzo, also four siblings who died at a young age, all from Hoosick Falls.
Grandmother of Ellie Keleher of Troy, Mary DeGeorge of Stillwater, Margaret Manns of Long Island, Richard Aurelius, Tony Cesario, Shawn Gillie, Anthony Gillie, Charlene Greene, all of Troy, Nick Cesario from Waterford, John Gillie, Los Angeles, CA, Stacie Sorel of Cohoes. Also survived by several great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Mary was educated at St. Mary's Academy, Hoosick Falls. She lived most of her life in Cohoes, Watervliet and later in Troy.
She was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church, Cohoes.
Mary had been employed at the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II; was a supervisor in the kitchen at Siena College and for over 25 years was the head wardrobe mistress at the Colonie Tent Theater. She had also been employed by the City of Watervliet as a school crossing guard, and was known as "Pepper" by her students.
Mary was very active in the Keveny Memorial Academy Sister Parent Association, was a member of the Cohoes Columbiettes Council 192, Cohoes Business and Professional Women's Club, Cohoes Democratic Party, was a member of the Cohoes Lodge of Elks Ladies Auxiliary 1317. She was also a volunteer for the Cohoes branch of the American Red Cross.
Mary requested that her body be donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at the Albany Medical College.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, Cohoes. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery Hoosick Falls.
