Some believe he was the same William as he christened 30 MAY 1624 in Dorking, Surrey, England citing "The Bassett Family of Yarmouth," in Cape Cod Library, Vol. 1 (C. W. Swift, Publisher and Printer; The "Register" Press 1912), pg. 1260 (not online 2019) but THAT William Bassett has been confirmed to be William of Lynn.

Although William was a resident of Plymouth or Sandwich at the time, Mary was probably still living with her parents in Boston and they were probably married there.

"William Bassett, son of William and Elizabeth Bassett, was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1624. He was one of the early settlers of Sandwich,
and lived there until his death. He was licensed in 1659 to set up an 'ordinary', and to draw wines and spiritous liquors. He was Collector a
Constable at Sandwich in 1657; Deputy to the General Court at Plymou1662; member of military company under Capt. Myles Standish in 1643. William Bassett and William Bassett Jr. were on the rolls of males between the ages of 16 and 60 able to perform military duty in Aug. of 1643 at Duxbury. He was one of the few in the colony called Mr. He married about 1652, Mary Rainsford, who was born in Boston on 1 Jun 1632, the daughter of Elder Edward and Mary Raynesford. He died 10 Jun 1670 at Sandwich, Massachusetts. His children were minors and Mr. Winslow and Mr. Hinckley were chosen as guardians - both of
whom later became governors of the colony. His widow married Lieut. James Percival in June of 1671, who came from Virginia about 1670 to Sandwich. They had three children. He died in 1692.
