They seem to have mainly settled in the North West of England, particularly around Lancashire, there being a village of Dilworth near Preston. The family name, according to early records of the fourteenth century was de Dilworth confirming the Continental origin The Hearthstone money rolls of 1666 show George Dilworth living in Drumard near Killyman, Dungannon in a house with one hearthstone. A George Dilworth is noted as being present to witness a Quaker marriage in Moyallon of a member of the Grange meeting of the Society of Friends of which George was presumably a member. In the early 1700s, the family seems to have split, one section moving to Seagoe parish, near Portadown, where they were mentioned in a chancery decree in 1724… .A second branch settled at Lowertown near the Bush, while a third group became established at Mullaghcreevy, Donaghmore, where the name occurs in the Church of Ireland records as far back as 1749 It is believed that this Mullaghcreevy section of the Dilworth family belonged to Dungannon Presbyterian Church, as did that at Lowertown, while the Killyman and Seagoe branches were nearly all connected to the Church of Ireland by the latter end of the 18th century. William Dilworth was born in 1789/90, probably in Seagoe parish. William was a farmer, and he was living in Crossmacahilly townland in the parish from at least 1825. The Armagh Freeholder’s Register of 18 August 1825 recorded him leasing land in the townland from Viscount Mandeville (Duke of Manchester). John Henry Loftie held a life interest in the property.(see George Brown b.1830) At the time of the Griffith’s Valuation(1847-1864), William was occupying house, offices, & land totalling 10 acres 3 roods in Crossmacahilly. The land was valued at £12-10-0 and the buildings were valued at £2-0-0. William was subletting a further house (valued at £1-5-0) to his son William b.1823 William was still living in Crossmacahilly when he died. He was buried in Seagoe parish on 26 November 1881. possible daughter?
