  Obituary
  On December 26, 1927, Augusta was born to Johannes and Gertie Honcoop in Lynden, WA. She was the first of 9 children who called her Gussie. They lived on a dairy farm, expounding a strong work ethic, a generous amount of humor, a love for family, and a deep faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  
  Augusta fell in love and married Melvin Ray Nieuwsma on June 8, 1949. No longer on the farm, she lived in the city of Lynden. A year later they welcomed a baby girl, Kathleen, to their family, followed by another daughter, Mary, and 3 sons, David, Ronald, and Timothy. They lived in several houses, before moving from Washington to California and back again after 8 Years, with stints of time in Oklahoma in between. They ended up back in Lynden for their retirement years.
  
  During all the years of moving and raising her children, Augusta never complained. She worked hard and set a wonderful example of a godly wife and mother. She was happy and loved music and games. She played her Hawaiian guitar while Melvin played other instruments and they would sing together. In her later years, she loved visits from children and grandchildren, always planning lots of food for a good time and a cup of tea.
  
  At the age of 92 ½ Augusta went home to her Lord on Monday morning, July 20, 2020 at Lynden Manor. She will always be remembered for her sweet, loving nature and will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
  
  Augusta is survived by her sister Marie, brothers Anthony, John, and William also in the Lynden area. She is survived by children Kathleen (Robert Oostra in MT), Mary (Hank Doelman in WA), David (Patricia Vroom in ID) and Timothy (Charlene Geleynse in Everson, WA). She leaves behind 42 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
  
  She is preceded in death by husband Melvin (2014), brothers Ike (2015) and Maurice(1999), sisters Anna (2012) and Arlene (1999), son Ronald (2013), and 2 granddaughters Elizabeth (2008) and Margaret (2017).
  
  The family wishes to thank Lynden Manor staff for their tender loving, professionalism in caring for Augusta. Their excellent service assured us of her comfort and appropriate medical care until her last breath.
  
  Graveside service to be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden, WA. Due to Covid-19, attendance is limited to 100. Thank you for your understanding.
  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
