SHUTTLEWORTH: Wilhelmina Shuttleworth. With great sadness the family of Wilhelmina Shuttleworth wish to announce the passing of their dear mother on June 16, 2015, at the Morley House Personal Care Home in Shoal Lake. Willa was predeceased by her husband Stan, (1999), grandson Chad (1997), brother Hans (2000) and sister Elly (2013). She leaves to mourn her children: Donna (Bill), Rendy, Rod (Doris), Craig (Marilynn), Elly (Jeff); grandchildren: Trent, Tamara (Russ), Tyler (Nicole), Brandi, Tia, Jesse and great grandchildren: Ethan, Brylin, Chloe, Micah, Laine, Kostyn, Ella, Taylor and Charlotte. Willa was born on March 21, 1925 in Holland, eldest daughter of Joannes and Ottolina Erkamp. There she met the love of her life, Stan Shuttleworth, a Canadian soldier. They were married in August, 1945 and were together for 54 years. With great courage, Willa immigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1946. She and Stan made a home together at Onanole, Mb, right on the edge of RMNP and raised their 5 children there. Stan was employed by the Park and Willa found casual employment at the Park for many of her early years there as well as being a mother and homemaker for her lively family. Although raised in the city, Willa embraced country life. She canned, sewed clothes for her growing family and is remembered for her delicious homemade bread. Willa and Stan made lifelong friends in their years at Onanole and kept in touch throughout the years. Willa enjoyed singing in the Onanole United Church choir and was a member of UCW. She was very involved with her children’s activities – making sure they took swimming lessons every summer at Clear Lake as well as being a Brownie and 4H leader. In 1977, Willa and Stan retired and moved along with youngest daughter, Elly, to Surrey, B.C. to be closer to Willa’s family who lived there. Willa and Stan took great pride in their new home. Willa was always proud of her Dutch heritage – you could always find tulips, windmills and Dutch klompen tucked into corners. Every year however, Willa and Stan would travel back to Manitoba to spend time with family and friends. After husband Stan’s passing in 1999, Willa remained in Surrey close to youngest daughter Elly and her growing family. In 2007, Willa moved to a condo in Shoal Lake to be close to her eldest daughter, Donna. Her final years were spent at the Morley House Care Home. Willa will always be remembered as an elegant lady with style and grace. Her family was always most important to her and she treasured visits and phone calls. The family is indebted to Donna for her devoted care of mother, Willa, in her final years at Shoal Lake. A special thank you to the Morley House for their considerate and compassionate care of mom. Special thanks also too many friends that visited her there. We all miss Willa, a very special lady, a dear mother, nana, great nana and friend. She will be cherished in our hearts forever. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westminster United Church, Shoal Lake. Interment will follow in the Shoal Lake Cemetery. Rev. Jamie Bradshaw will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations in Willa’s memory may be made to the Morley House Personal Care Home or the Shoal Lake-Strathclair Health Centre. Rae’s Funeral Service of Shoal Lake is in care of the arrangements.
