FROM: Charles Edwin Hunger's Genealogy, Rootsweb's World Connect Project; July 19,2006on as to his birth and marriage previously listed is questionable. There is doubt that his wife was Rebecca Marshall. It has been proposed that Abraham Lewis married Rebecca Davis on March 9, 1744 in the First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and it is at least likely that Abraham Lewis was a resident of that state. If this is correct Abraham Lewis, then his birth would have been ca1720-22. Circumstantial evidence shows that there was an Abraham Lewis, Benjamin Butcher, Benjamin Butcher, Jr., John Butcher, John Butcher, Jr., Samuel Butcher, and Joseph Marple (Samuel Butcher m. a Sasannah Marple), and a David Davis estate, listed on tax list in Manor of Moreland Township, City of Philadelphia, in 1779 (Pennsylvania Achives, Third Series, Vol 14, p. 641): in 1783, a Joseph Butcher, Benjamin Butcher, Abraham Lewis, Samuel Butcher, and Joseph Lewis. In the First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia County records, book 104, p. 126, June 2, 1740: "To Samuel Butcher: creditor of Joseph Lewis, wife Mary." An Examination of the estate records of Abraham Lewis in Loudoun County, Virginia (see below) would indicate that possibly only James, Jacob and Isaac Lewis were in Loudoun County when Abraham died, along with Nancy (Guy) and Susannah (Butcher). At the sale, Isaac Lewis bought an iron pot, bridle and cow; Jacob Lewis bought a saddle and cow; James Lewis bought almost everything else, which would seem to indicate he intended to remain there. Jacob and Isaac are later found in Kentucky, and Joseph Lewis and Martha (the widow of Paul Beck) were already in Shelby County, Kentucky in 1802.ts of this county are extremely hard to read, in many instances illegible due to water damage and time; some years are missing, and for some years only fragments remain. The following names are grouped when they appear concurrently on the lists:79 - Sasanna Butcher, Samuel Guym Lewis, Isaac Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Hezekiah Guy, Jacob and James, to two daughters Sasan Butcher and Nancy Guy, to daughter Martha Beck, to son Joseph, to son Abraham, and to daughter Mary Guy. Executors were Isaac Lewis and John Butcher. Witnessed by George McKinny, Thomas Harper and John Harper. Dated February 27, 1802, probated October 11, 1802. Will Book G, p. 54, has Inventory of Abraham Lewis estate, dated May 25, 1802 (?), recorded June 13, 1802, by John Gibson, Sr., Thomas Harper, Sr. and Joseph Carr.
