LifeSketch: Mary Tudor was the youngest child of was King Henry VII of England and Elizabeth Plantagenet, younger sister of Henry VIII. She was born March 18, 1496 at Richmond Palace in London. At age 18 she married 52 year old King Louis XII of France, first by proxy, then with much pomp on 9 October 1514 at Abbeville Cathedral in Picardie, France. Queen Consort of France for less than 3 months, she became the Dowager Queen of France on January 1, 1515, when King Louis XII died, leaving no issue. She married second Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, her brothers best friend and trusted advisor, against King Henry's direct orders, committing treason in doing so. Henry VIII forgave them, after making them forfeit a large fine, and insisted upon a 2nd public wedding which occurred 13 May, 1515 at the Palace of Placentia in Greenwich. They had 4 children: their sons Lord Henry and Henry 1st Earl of Lincoln both died young. Their daughters: Lady Frances and Lady Eleanor both married and had children. Even after her marriage to Brandon, Mary was often still called the Dowager Queen of France. Queen is Queen after all, it trumps all other female titles of nobility. Mary died on June 25, 1533 at the age of 37 and is entombed at St Mary's Church, Suffolk, England.
