Services Held Friday for 'Tony' Kardoes
A longtime Titonka area farmer, Anton 'Tony' Kardoes, 71, died Tuesday morning, July 22, at Park Memorial Hospital in Mason City where he had been a patient for three days. He had suffered an apparent heart attack earlier.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday at the First Baptist Church at Bancroft with the Rev. Alfred Smith officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery at Buffalo Center.
Pallbearers were Leo Richter, Mervin Gray, Dale Helmers, Floyd Huisman, Martin Stecker and Neal Michaelsen.
Born Sept. 4, in Germany, Tony was the son of William and Flogerdean Gertjes Kardoes. He came to the United States, where he was married to Dollie Abbas on Feb. 1, 1928 at Blue Earth, Minn. The Couple farmed their entire married life until his retiremant. Mr. Kardoes is survived by his wife, Dollie; five sons and three daughters, Mrs. Johanna Frericks and Mrs. Velma Dontje of Buffalo Center, William of Denver, Colo.; Oliver and Gerhart of Titonka, Mrs. LaVon Mc Vey of Tacoma, Wash.; Harold of Atlanta, GA.; and Richard of Wesley. There are 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
One sister, Nella Brink of Ochre River, Canada and a brother, Gerhart, in Germany, also survive.
A memorial for Bible distibution in this area has been designated in memory of 'Tony.'
