Helen Mauck Ball, widow of Dr. Clay A. Ball, died today at Westminster Village one day prior to her 98th birthday. She was a native of Covington, Ky., and moved with her parents to numerous communities before graduating from Hillsdale (Michigan) College.
Mrs. Ball moved to Muncie in 1914 and taught in Muncie High School for two years prior to her marriage in 1916.
She frequently helped her husband in his office prior to his retirement in 1971 after 65 years in the medical profession. For several years, the couple resided at Adams and Franklin, above Dr. Ball's office.
Mrs. Ball was instrumental in organizing the American Association of University Women, Muncie chapter, the Ball Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the city-wide Parent Teacher Association. For many years, she was active in the Emerson School PTA, after helping to organize the association. She also organized and was active in the Delaware-Blackford County Medical Society Auxiliary and served on the boards of both the Visiting Nurse Association and the YWCA. She also was a member of the Research Club. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and previously was a Sunday school teacher there.
In 1980, Mrs. Ball was named honorary first lady of Muncie for her civic work in the community. Her husband died in June 1980.
Surviving her are four sons;
A memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Meeks Mortuary. The family will receive callers prior to the service. Private interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
