DEATH OF ADAM GEITGEY, SR
Adam Geitgey, Sr. died on Tuesday July 19th, at the home of his son, Adam Getgey, Jr. in Franklin township, 4 miles south-east of Wooster. He was born in Northumberland county, Pa. March 21, 1798, making him in his 94th year of age.
He came to Wayne county in the year 1816 when 18 years old. In 1822 he purchased a farm of 160 acres in Franklin township, on which he located and resided to the day of his death. In 1826 he was married to Miss Nancy Shearer. He was the father of eight children, four sons and four daughters, three of whom survive him viz: Mrs. Catherine Bucher, of Illinois; Mrs. Elizabeth Lawrence, of near Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Mr. Adam Geitgey, Jr., of Wayne county, O. His wife also preceded him to the grave 55 years. He was a man of industrious and economical habits and a strong vigorous constitution. Throughout his long life he was a man much esteemed for his rectitude of character and excellent qualities as a neighbor and citizen.
The funeral services were conducted at his late residence on Thursday, the 21st, by Rev. I.J. Miller, after which his remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife in the old cemetery in Franklin township. Thus has passed away another of the pioneers of Wayne county, reminding all that death will come.
