Funeral services for John U. Winter, 80, were held Saturday, November 22, 10:30 a.M. at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Interment was at Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Northwood,with Mittelstadt Funeral Home of Lake Mills in charge of arrangements.
Vickie Zobel was the organist and the congregation sang hymns. Mariann Overland was the soloist and vocalists were Dan and Beth Hampton. Honorary casketbearers were Arlow Rugland, Steve Butler, Dennis Reyerson, and Chad Rugland.Casketbearers were Randall and Laura Winter, Lynda and Tom Schmitz, Don and Denise Walker, Deb Ites, Drew Tolzmann, Dianna Reynolds, Greg Hampton, Kim Donahow, and Larry Miller.
John Ubbe Winter, son of Ubbe and Hermina (Sleper) Winter, was born November 16, 1917, in Buffalo Center.
On April 26, 1947, John married June Hampton in Mason City. John lived in Buffalo Center until 1963 when they moved to a farm near Northwood. John farmed and worked at Wilson Meat Company. In October 1997, John moved to BuffaloCenter.
John passed away at his home in Buffalo Center on Tuesday, November 18, 1997.
John is survived by his son, Ronald, of Cathedral City, California; two sisters: Minnie and her husband, Merlin Walker of Algona; Marge and her husband, Merle Miller of Des Moines; three brothers: George and his wife, Evelyn Winter ofBuffalo Center; Andy and his wife, Ruth Winter of Buffalo Center; and Lawrence and his wife, Carmen Winter of Stewartville, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Irene Winter of Buffalo Center; one uncle, Folkert Winter of Buffalo Center; andseveral nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June; two brothers: Ed and Everett; and two sisters: Dorothy Winter and Ruth Winter.' <>
