"William S. Tjaden Jan. 1, 1929 - March 25, 2019

A funeral service for William Tjaden, 90, of Titonka, will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Good Hope Lutheran Church, Titonka. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Titonka.

William Stephen Tjaden was born January 14, 1929, on the family farm near Titonka. William was the son of Stephen and Flora (Bruns) Tjaden. He grew up near Titonka and attended country school through the eighth grade. Immediately following school, he began farming.

On November 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Barbara Overholser at St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Together they resided on the farm in rural Titonka and were blessed with two children, Randy and Terry Lynn. Bill and Barb were known to do everything together. Caring for their dairy cows, hogs, and chickens, as well as being a good steward of the land, Bill and Barb were the ideal farm couple.

Bill and Barb were members of the Titonka Twirlers Square Dance Club and enjoyed the many friends they met while traveling throughout the state and the Midwest attending club dances and activities. They also enjoyed several winters of snowmobiling and were members of the Titonka Sno-Indians.

In 1994, Bill and Barb moved off the family Century Farm to Titonka to enjoy their retirement years. Bill continued to farm with his son Randy for several years and also kept busy mowing lawns and blowing snow for many Titonka residents and his church. Attending the numerous activities of his grandchildren was a highlight that kept him busy for many years.

Bill was a devoted husband and will be remembered for his gentleness and kindness. His honesty and strong work ethic were excellent examples to his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a lifetime member of Good Hope Lutheran Church of Titonka. He was baptized on March 24, 1929, and confirmed on July 18, 1943. He served on the church council, Titonka Telephone Board, and Farmers Coop Oil Board.

Bill became a resident of the Titonka Care Center in June of 2018. Bill died peacefully with his wife by his side on March 25, 2019 at the age of 90.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara of Titonka; son, Randy (Lisa) Tjaden of Titonka; son-in-law, Wing Ng of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Stephen (Kayla) Tjaden and their son Rush of Sioux Rapids, David (Caitlin) Tjaden of Boise, ID, Jacob Tjaden of Algona, Allyson Ng of Kansas City, MO, William Ng of Kansas City, MO; brother, Herb (Alice)Tjaden of Burlington, IA, sisters, Lorna (Carl Weiser) Tjaden of New Hope, MN, Joy (Allan) Boyken of Titonka; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
