He was born on May 9, 1923, in Richmond, Ky., the son of Charles and Nellie Bond. He was raised in Kentucky and Ten-nessee, and came to Oklahoma following World War II. He met Mary Ann Clayton, a Broken Bow native, while in Oklahoma and they were married on Aug. 3, 1950, in DeQueen, Ark. They moved from Oklahoma City to Broken Bow in 1959, where he lived for the past 50 years.
Chuck, as he was known to friends and family, proudly served his country, volunteering for two tours of duty in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Among his duty assignments were Guam and the Aleutian Islands. Not one to wait to be drafted, he quickly volunteered following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
He worked for McCurtain County District 2 for many years. He was an avid golfer and well known at the Idabel Country Club.
He is survived by his son Charles Bond and wife Lynn, his daughter Betty Wharton and husband David all of Broken Bow; three grandchildren, Chris Read, Muskogee, Michael Bond and wife Amy, Edmond, and Sara Bond, Broken Bow; three great-grandchildren, Bradley Read, Broken Bow; Katey Read, Allen, Okla., and Maddilyn Bond, Edmond; two brothers, John Bond, Crossville, Tenn., and Edwin Bond, Canton, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends here in McCurtain County.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Mary Ann Clayton Bond, his parents, Charles Bond and Nellie Wilson Bond, sister Margaret Pugh, brothers Wilson, William, Ernest, Robert and David Bond.
Per his wishes, a memorial service will be held later in the summer. Those wishing to re-member Chuck can make a donation in his name to the Animal Rescue and Kare (ARK) of McCurtain County, Junior Golf, the American Cancer Society or a charity of their choice.
